A 45-year-old woman from Brighton in the UK is looking for an Irish stem cell donor for an essential bone marrow transplant.

Mother-of-two Nikki Braterman was diagnosed in December of last year with acute myeloid leukemia, a disease that has a rare cytogenetic abnormality that puts patients at risk of relapsing after chemotherapy.

Unfortunately, as of last Tuesday (September 10th), Nikki relapsed. Now, she and her family are desperately seeking a donor who must have an Irish or Anglo-Burmese background.

Nikki is looking for her ‘perfect ten match’ having previously found a donor in France who turned out to be a 9/10 match.

“I’m a mum to two small children, aged seven and four, and I want to see them grow up,” Nikki told Irish Central today.

“If you are reading this story and think that you may be able to help then please, please get in touch. You might just be able to save my life.”

Nikki Braterman is asking people to see if they can be a donor match.

The family are hoping that as many people as possible will sign up to be tested as a match for Nikki. They are looking for donors who share her ethnic background of Irish and Anglo-Burmese, but Anglo-Indian or any Anglo-Asian mix could also be a possibility.

“We are desperately and urgently seeking a perfect match donor for my beautiful wife Nikki,” said her husband, Geoff. “I don’t want to lose her and I don’t want my kids to grow up without their mum.

“The right donor is out there somewhere – we just need to find them quickly.”
