So It Appears We’ve Been Contouring All Wrong

Contouring can go one of two ways: chiselled cheekbones or a series of random orange marks that look ridiculous. After a fair few practice runs, we were just getting confident with our contouring skills only to hear that there’s a new and better way to go about things. From clown contouring to the reverse contour... Industry experts say it’s all about the "reverse contour" and apparently it’s the “right way” to go about this particular technique. Make-up artist Christelle Coquet says: “The right contouring is when you look at yourself in the mirror and the pick out the curves of your face. “You need to use a transparent ash shadow – not the warm brown that you see on YouTube, which in real life looks terrible”. Look magazine reports that MAC make-up artist ‘Mark Carrasquillo tried the ‘reverse contour’ at the Hussein Chalayan SS16 during Paris Fashion Week. He used a "half moon of pink blush that starts from her browbone, where you would usually use a highlighter". It's a very pretty look "We’re bringing it right into the hair line and then with a little bit of a lighter foundation we’re doing a reverse contour on the cheek.’ The interesting thing about this technique is that you’re actually contouring with light instead of concentrating on depth and shadowing.
