This is a good one.
There is nothing more annoying than spending time on your eye makeup, blending shadow and perfecting eyeliner flicks, only to ruin it all with awkward mascara application (guilty).
While mascara is a must for finishing off your look and opening up the eye area, it can be tricky to manoeuvre the wand so that it doesn't end up leaving black smudges all over your eyelids.
This is especially annoying because removing the smudges almost always removes the carefully-applied eyeshadow and eyeliner that have been painstakingly blended together.
The good news is there's a way around it and genuinely, this is one of the most useful makeup tips I've come across to date.

Byrdie, a makeup artist working backstage at Paris Haute Couture Week recently shared her secret and it's SO good.

In fact, it's so simple that I'm raging I didn't have the cop on to think of it sooner, mainly because I'm ALWAYS putting mascara on my lids.
The professional MUA produced a small compact mirror, of the fold-out variety and uses this to cover the eyelids while applying the mascara.
While the mirror is good, anything slim to fit enough in this space will work, so you could try a credit card, business card, or if you're really stuck a thin sheet of paper.
Those mascara smudges will soon be a thing of the past *YAY*.
