Michael Le Vell has admitted that he took cocaine in the weeks leading up to his sex abuse trial.
The
Coronation Street star, who was cleared of all sexual offence charges back in September, said it was the first time he had tried the drug.
He told the
Sunday Mirror: “The first time I ever did cocaine was in the lead up to my trial… I had never felt so low – I knew I was innocent but everything was closing in on me and when someone offered them to me, I just agreed.”
The actor added: “I never thought I was the sort of bloke who would like cocaine but it was a moment of weakness when I was at the lowest ebb of my life.”
Le Vell, who plays mechanic Kevin Webster in the soap, also said he took the drug when he was cleared of the charges but stopped ahead of his return to the cobbles.
According to the
Manchester Evening Herald, show bosses will hold talks with the actor following his admission.
