The furious Royal couple will sue the French magazine Closer that published photos of Kate Middleton topless yesterday.
Aides said that the couple reacted with “anger and disbelief” to the photos taken as they sunbathed on a private holiday in France.
A shocked Prince William said the publication of photos of his wife Kate sunbathing topless were “grotesque”.
Prince William was said to be very upset about the invasion of the couple’s privacy as it echoed the press hounding of his mother Princess Diana before her 1997 Paris car crash.
Royal officials confirmed that the couple, both 30 years of age, will sue the French publication.
The snaps were taken by a hidden photographer as the couple took a short holiday last week before their Far East tour.
Meanwhile, the editor of the French magazine Closer Laurence Pieau warned that the magazine had further, even more intimate, photos of the couple.
“Intimate pictures exist that we haven’t published and will not publish. Perhaps other newspapers will choose to publish them,” she said.
The grainy photos showed Kate, wearing only a black and white bikini bottom. In one photo, Prince William, applies sun-cream to Kate’s bottom.
Editor Pieau defended her decision in publishing the photos yesterday.
“These photos are not in the least shocking. They show a young woman sunbathing topless like millions of women you see on beaches.
“They were not taking any special effort to conceal themselves.”
No, Pieau, but they were in a private villa a mile off the road, we think they expected some level of privacy as a couple there…
Prince William and his wife Kate heard the news yesterday as they ate breakfast in the Malaysian capital Kuala Lumpur yesterday. The couple carried on with their daily duties but at times looked strained.
A source said that their initial “sadness” turned into “anger and disbelief”.
“We believe a line has been crossed,” a spokesman told the Irish Sun.
“Their Royal Highness have been hugely saddened to learn a French publication and a photographer invaded their privacy in such an unjustifiable manner.”
The magazine described the couple canoodling on the villa’s balcony and said Kate smoked as she relaxed in the villa garden.
The French magazine sells around 400,000 copies a week and is separate to the British publication of the same name.
The Royals have most certainly had a tough few weeks in the media…
