‘Something About Mary’ actor Danny Murphy has died in his Florida home aged 59, after battling cancer.

The actor, who starred in a number of the Farrelly brothers’ movies including Shallow Hal, became a quadriplegic after a diving accident when he was 19, but didn’t get into acting until later in life, when he landed a role in the Farrelly brothers’ second film Kingpin.

Murphy landed the role after he’d teased childhood friend Peter Farrelly for not having any wheelchair users in his first film Dumb and Dumber.

Danny’s agent Cynthia Kazarian confirmed he died in his home in Florida, where he had moved to pursue other projects outside of acting.

Murphy became an activist for disabled actors, even establishing his own theatre company, Blue Zone Productions in 2008 to assist performers with disabilities in the acting and showbiz industry.
