Today marks the 16th anniversary of one of the music industry's greats. Frank Sinatra passed away on the 14th May 1998 aged 82.
From his first hit in 1940, old blues eyes went from strength to strength however it was his 1969 album release, '
My Way', that this musical legend will be most fondly remembered.
One fifth of the famous 'Rat Pack', Sinatra's
My Way album was a collection of contemporary pop songs, notably The Beatles'
'Yesterday' and Simon and Garfunkel's
Mrs. Robinson.
The title track of the album, derived originally from a French number about lost love, became Sinatra's signature song in later life. Canadian singer-songwriter, Paul Anka, rewrote the lyrics for '
My Way', after returning from a visit to the France and changed its sentiment completely.
There is no doubt that Sinatra could take on any song and master it. He has and will forever remain one of the smoothest crooners in show business and a natural born entertainer.
Although many have tried, no has ever come close to imitating the musical icon. Charismatic, sharp, effortless and simply unforgettable, here are our favourite tracks from Frank Sinatra's '
My Way'.
