If you have a penchant for true crime documentaries (like most of the world seem to) you’re going to get massively excited about this news.
BBC Three has joined the cohort of journalists trying to solve crimes in their latest series
Unsolved: The Boy Who Disappeared. The eight-part web series investigates the disappearance of 16-year-old Damien. Damien vanished after a night out on the Isle of Wight 20 years ago and details around his disappearance have baffled investigators for the past two decades.
Journalists Bronagh Munro and Alys Harte lead the investigation and hope to answer questions like why Damien’s body was never found.
According to
Digital Spy, the duo will meet a massive amount of people including Damian's friends and family to possible witnesses, private investigators and even convicted criminals who could have important information.
Alys said the hardest part about the investigation has been deciphering the lies.
"We had to wade through almost 20 years of rumour, speculation and lies,” she said.
“Some stories have been retold so many times that they have become part of the mythology of the Isle of Wight. Deciphering fact from fiction was our greatest challenge."
Damien’s mother Valeries Nettles was impressed with the team.
"The last 20 years has been a struggle," she said. "We never felt Damien went off on his own for any reason. We have always felt something bad happened. Not knowing for sure has been the worst possible part,” she said.
"I threw everything I had and more at the team to sift through. Now I am able to look at my son's case through new eyes and to see things from a new perspective."
The series is available online on BBC Three from Monday July 25
