The creators of the hit Netflix original series Making a Murderer are set to receive the James Joyce Award tomorrow.
Moira Demos and Laura Ricciardi will address students at an event in UCD, where they are going to receive the James Joyce Award from University College Dublin Literary & Historical society. The award recognises those who have achieved outstanding success in their given field.
The series became a global sensation in December 2015, after it brought to light the story of Steven Avery and how he was exonerated for a crime he didn't commit only to be convicted of murder a few years later.
Avery has always maintained his innocence and the programme cast serious doubts on the manner in which the case was handled by investigators and by the judicial system.
Moira and Laura worked on the series over the course of the last ten years, after learning about the case in the New York Times.
They will become the latest recipients of the award, joining previous honourees including JK Rowling, Alan Rickman and most recently the speaker of the House of Commons, John Bercow.
They will also be discussing the documentary creation process and give an insight to their views on the shortcomings of the American legal system.
