People are gutted after last night’s Great British Bake Off

So long, Val.

Last night's Great British Bake Off saw one of the favourite bakers leave the show. After the pastry week, which has the contestants creating morning pastries, a Bakewell Tart and a filo pastry showstopper. Unfortunately when it came down to who had to leave Val was chosen by Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood. From listening to her cakes, going off course with her own recipes and adding in extra ingredients or techniques, she was one of the best characters on the show. Admittedly, she was never the strongest in the competition but her enthusiasm and funny quips could have carried her through to the final. But, with the nature of the show, the weakest baker each week has to leave and this week it was Val. Even her parting words about ‘stirring love’ into everything she bakes was enough to bring a tear to your eye.
