Ah here...
The Irish water charges have been a hot topic for quite some time now and so Fine Gael Senator Martin Conway appeared as a guest on
TV3's Tonight with Vincent Browne show to discuss it further.
The beauty of live television is that when you’re caught on the hop there is simply no going back.
Conway told Browne that he has always believed that water is a “finite resource”.
“Lets talk about water. Water needs to be paid for; it costs, it doesn’t just fall out of the sky”, he told the host before adding; “it had to be purified”.
We’re guessing that Conway tried to incorporate the old ‘money doesn't grow on trees’ phrase that we’ve heard from our parents many times and relate it to the water charge crisis. It is just a pity he didn’t think about it for a little longer.
Conway is correct, technically, as purified drinking water does not fall from the sky, but folk online are still having a field day.
