According to the fitness maestro himself, complex carbohydrates are your best friend when training for an event such as this so stock up on wholegrains and slow-release foods that will give you enough energy to get through your work-outs. Always eat about an hour and a half before a session and opt for something with a high glucose content for an energy kick before the event itself.
If you're a bit clueless about your nutritional intake, download the MyFitnessPal app (available in the Play Store) and log what you're eating as this will give you some helpful pointers (as well as highlighting all your bad decisions!). For some diet inspiration, check out Alan's Instagram here.
Another thing that I have to do this week is finally get a new pair of decent trainers so if yours have seen better days, this is your last chance. Alan advises breaking in your runners for at least two weeks before an event to make sure they are comfortable and don't blister your feet on the day - so be warned!
While it has been a bit frustrating at times, this week has been full of valuable lessons and I'm now ready to hit my final fortnight with some serious enthusiasm. As I'm quite new to all this, I'd love to hear any hints or tips you may have so tweet us@Herdotie with the #CouchtoRainbow5K!
