Met Eireann has issued a ‘status orange’ warning with heavy fog expected later this evening.
This the the second warning from the national forecaster today as a ‘dense fog’ will descend right across the country.
In a statement from the Road Safety Authority, drivers are asked to travel with extreme caution and cyclists and pedestrians are advised to avoid journeys if at all possible.
“The added dangers posed by fog is that a collision involving one vehicle can quickly involve many others, especially if driving too fast and too close to one another.
“The biggest risk is of a multiple-vehicle pile-up on roads with higher speeds such as motorways and dual carriageways”.
The fog is expected to linger for parts of tomorrow morning before slowly clearing throughout the day.
