Just three minutes into the game, Cavan had taken a 1-1 to 0-0 lead, thanks to a goal from Catríona Smith. Goals from Rosie Crowe and two from Doonan followed, before the latter added her third from a penalty just before half-time.
Rosie Crowe was key for Cavan.
Aishling Sheridan hit the net twice for Cavan in the second half, with Smith adding her second of the day shortly after.
O’Keeffe and Doonan continued to fire points over, while substitute Beth Farrelly-McGee netted her side’s 10th goal with 49 minutes gone to send Cavan comfortably through to the final whistle.
Meanwhile in the second game of the day, Armagh had the upper hand over Laois in a closer affair, eventually winning out by 3-22 to 3-7.
Six of the Orchard County’s team got on the scoreboard more than once, with Aimee Mackin and Caroline O’Hanlon each notching 1-4.
The talented Kelly Mallon and Lauren McConville both got five points on the day, and though it took Armagh a while to hit their stride, once they did, there really was no doubt about the result.
Aoife McCoy’s 23rd-minute goal was the score to swing momentum in their favour and put them 1-9 to 0-2 in front and they went in at the break leading 1-12 to 0-4.
Aimee Mackin of Armagh.
Goals in the second period from Mackin and O’Hanlon put the outcome beyond doubt, though Laois came back well and were rewarded for their efforts with goals from Noirín Kirwan, Ellen Healy and Laura-Marie Maher.
By the closing quarter though, Armagh had asserted their dominance once more and proved just how dangerous they can be in front of the posts.
