Former South African president Nelson Mandela has been laid to rest in his childhood village of Qunu.
A 21-gun salute and full military honour guard escorted his coffin to a specially erected marquee where 4,500 mourners paid their respects.
The coffin was surrounded by 95 candles, each representing a year of his life.
After the state funeral which was attended by many political dignitaries including Gerry Adams, the burial was private for family and friends.
South African president Jacob Zuma spoke of the great work Mandela completed during his lifetime, "It is the end of 95 glorious years of a freedom fighter, a dedicated and humble servant of the people of South Africa," Mr Zuma said in his eulogy at the funeral ceremony.
Mandela's widow Graca Machal and his former wife Winnie Madikizela–Mandela sat front row as they mourned such a huge loss.
"Go well Madiba, go well to the land of our ancestors, you have ran your race," said Mandela's granddaughter Nandi Mandela using his clan name.
"We will carry lessons you taught us throughout our lives ... As South Africans we must stop pointing fingers, but must rather lead by example, as you did and do something positive for South Africa," said Nandi.
The South African nation have paid their respects during ten days of mourning for the founding father of their "Rainbow Nation."
