Lend A Hand – Five Great Irish Causes To Get Behind This Week

Five great causes you can really get behind this week...

Sue Murphy

Every week in the Her.ie offices we are inundated with requests from people asking us to help them promote their charity events. While every cause is worthwhile, unfortunately we can’t get around to all of them and so for that reason, we have decided to put together some of these events from around the country. Every week, we will feature five events you should get behind or get involved with over the next few months. There are tonnes of amazing organisations in this country, let’s help them out.

1. The Colour Dash.

Following a hugely successful turnout last year, the Colour Dash is back this year on the 26th of July in the Phoenix Park. The unique five kilometre ‘dash’ will see participants of all ages running, walking or jogging the course. ‘Dashers’ will start the route wearing a white t-shirt that is quickly transformed into a colourful work of art over the course of the race.

All funds from the Colour Dash will go to the Irish Cancer Society and it certainly looks like a fun day out. You don’t even need to be a serious runner for this one. You can check out more details about the run and how to get invovled here.

4. Katie’s Deam To Walk

Katie’s says: “Hi. My name is Katie Byrne, I am 7 years old. I live in Co.Cork in Ireland an my dream is to walk all by myself. My only dream is to be able to walk. I’d like to thank you for taking the time to look at my website. I have a condition called Cerebral Palsy, Spastic Diplegia which means my legs are very stiff, they ache a lot. I use my walker and wheelchair as my balance is not very good and my legs get tired sometimes. My family and friends are trying to raise enough money to get me to USA for an operation to help me walk and live an independent life.”

“My site has been setup to help raise awareness and hopefully generate enough support and donations to help me get to America, to have a life changing procedure which will make my legs work better. Our target amount is €60,000 and we have a lot of this raised already but we need as much help as possible to raise the rest of the funds by JULY 2014 to be guaranteed Katie’s operation in August as the operation has to be paid 1 month in advance of my surgery date.”
