Major New Development For Serial’s Adnan Syed

There has been a major development in the Adnan Syed case, which was the main focus of the podcast series Serial. It's just been revealed that his case is being re-opened, which of course means that new evidence will be brought to light. One key part which was left out of the first trial was that Adnan's friend Asia could possibly supply an alibi for Adnan. She said on the podcast that she had spoken with Adnan in the library at the time the murder took place. With the re-opening of the case he could potentially prove his innocence. Adnan made an appeal to the State of Maryland to re-open the case and in November it was granted and a date has now been confirmed. Buzzfeed news reporter broke the news last night:

For those of you that don't know who Adnan is or what Serial is, I'll give a brief synopsis. Adnan Syed was accused and eventually convicted of murdering his ex-girlfriend Hae Min Lee. The podcast Serial takes a look back at the trial, speaks to key witnesses and family members trying to solve the case and figure out if Adnan really was guilty of committing the crime or if he is telling the truth when he says he's innocent. If you haven't listened to it, I strongly advise that you do. It's one of the best podcasts out there.
