Seven moments every Irish mam lives for

Her

Brought to you by Dairygold

Dairygold’s new Make a Minute campaign is all about ensuring we have more time for the good stuff, and no one appreciates the little things quite like an Irish mammy.

Mammies are great, they are there for you when you need them and are always proud of you and your achievements.

There are certain things that all mams live for, whether it’s the big things, like seeing you do well in life, or the small things like a good cup of tea, she will always celebrate the life’s good moments.

Here a seven moments all Irish mam’s live for.

1. Good drying weather

One of life’s simple pleasures, Irish mam’s live for good drying weather. It can seem like your mam is constantly putting a new load into the washing machine so when that bright windy weather comes out, she is only delighted to be getting some of it dried on the line.

2. Cooking for you when you visit

If you live away from home for work or for college coming home to your mams dinners is something that can’t be beaten. Every Irish mam takes great pleasure in cooking you a huge roast dinner when you get home. She’ll inevitably tell you that you haven’t been eating enough while you’re away but will make sure you eat more than enough while she’s making your dinner.

3.Breakfast in bed

While mam’s love to cook, they do deserve a break sometimes. Once she’s up out of bed she’s non-stop cooking, cleaning and working so this is the one chance you have to treat her. She complains about being spoilt but she loves a little bit of fuss and a fry up in bed.

4. Sitting down for a cup of tea

Whether it’s meeting her friends in the local cafe, taking a quick break from her busy day, or having her first cup in the morning, every mam loves a good cup of tea and claims she can’t function without.

5. Long phone calls

“Did you hear who’s getting married?”, “How’s the weather up in Dublin?”, “When are you home next?” Ringing you up for a chat and a gossip is something every mam loves, she’ll ask you if you have any news, and although you might not, she’ll still manage to have a two-hour phone call about your man down the road and his new car. You know that no matter where you are or what time it is, your mam will always be up for a ‘quick ring’ that turns into a lengthy chat.

6. Meeting your other half

As we get older and settle down our mams live for the moment we bring our partner home for the first time. She’s heard all about him during those long phone calls, and she has her mother’s intuition about this guy being special. She’ll clean the house from top to bottom, get the good biscuits out and dig out the baby pictures of you.

7.Seeing you get married

The big one! Mammies live for all sorts of simple pleasures but seeing their daughter getting married is definitely the highlight. She’ll buy herself a hat and cry the whole day, and she couldn’t be happier.

Irish mams are full of love and support and will always be there for you, so no matter how busy life gets it’s so important to take some time out to spend those extra minutes with your mam.
