Sharing is caring
Seeking advice from someone who has gone down a similar path or is already in a role similar to the one you are aiming for is really important. Not only will you get some great tips on what to do and what not to do, but their helping hand and their contacts may be just the thing you need to get that dream break.
Time to shine!
Now it’s over to you. Get your CV in impeccable order, ensure you have an engaging cover letter that will grab the attention of any prospective employer and make sure you are interview ready.
It might sound ridiculous, but practising interviews with friends and family will actually help to put you at ease when the real thing comes around.
Mammies in particular are great at asking you random questions that you would have never thought of and this will help you to get better at answering on the spot!
Meet and greet
Often the best way to get out there and find out what you want is by networking. Meeting people who are in the field that you wish to be in is vital. Get some knowledge about the industry and talk to them for help and advice.
Similarly, if you are looking for a promotion in your workplace, getting out there and showing that you are willing to learn is really important.
Market yourself
Whether you’re going for a promotion or moving jobs altogether, it is vital that you market yourself properly. Your CV gives prospective employers their first impression of you, so make sure it's a good one!
If you get called to interview, dress smartly and present yourself well. Show them exactly what you are capable of and don’t be afraid to show off your skill set.
Still confused? Do a quick search on ‘personal branding’ online and take on board the handy hints on offer there.
Keep your head up
Everyone takes a knock back on the road to success but regardless of how many times you may get put back or your CV remains unanswered, keep the faith.
Remember, good things come to those who wait!
