"Southerly winds, later veering southwest then west, with mean speeds of 55 to 80 km/h, with gusts between 100 and 120 km/h," a statement on Met Éireann's website reads.
"Winds will be strongest near coastal areas, peaking Thursday evening into early Thursday night."
Elsewhere, a Status Yellow warning has been issued for Roscommon, Clare, Cork, Kerry and Limerick with gusts of up to 100km/h predicted.
Abigail is the first storm to be named as part of a new storm-naming imitative between Met Éireann and the British Met Office.
The list of names that will be given to storms was released last month, and storms will be given a name when it is believed they could have significant impact on the UK and/or Ireland.
