It’s been a rollercoaster of a ride for the women in blue and white over the last number of years, having lost out on the All-Ireland championship final in 2011 after a replay with Westmeath before securing the Mary Quinn cup in 2013.
Now this year, they certainly got their 2015 campaign off to a blistering start with a 4-25 to 0-5 win over Clare that laid down a marker for things to come.
The goal-scoring continued moving into Round Two as they secured a 4-13 to 1-8 win over a newly-regraded Kildare before an annihilation of Down in Round Three, 9-22 to 1-3.
All eyes were on Westmeath in the fourth round as the long-time rivals faced off to each other in the midlands, but Cavan held firm once more, securing a 0-10 to 0-5 win over the ladies in maroon and white.
It was Ulster champions 2014 Armagh who finally broke the deadlock on Cavan’s almost clean sheet in goals, bagging three goals on the day in what was an absolutely thrilling encounter. Cavan kept the pressure on though, and ran out winners 1-15 to 3-7.
Speaking ahead of the encounter, Cavan manager Conor Barry revealed that all was good in their camp ahead of Sunday's encounter.
"It's been a great week with the video from our training session going viral, the girls have been distracted so the pressure hasn't been getting to them," he revealed.
"It is a big game though. Donegal have only just come down from Division 1 and they will be hoping to go straight back up again, so we're not taking anything for granted."
"In saying that though, we're not afraid of any team. The girls have done very well to date - we had a tough test against Armagh and we have no doubt that this test will be just as tough.
"We're not afraid though and we're ready for the game," he continued, adding that they were already in the semi-final. "We don't have too much information on Donegal, I think that if you focus too much on the opposition you can lose sight of yourself.
"We doubt they will show their full hand on the day, but our girls are ready," he concluded.
Meanwhile Donegal, who currently top the table on points difference, will also be looking ahead to the trip to Kingspan Breffni Park.
Having been relegated from Division 1 last year, Davy McLaughlin's side were always going to be the team to beat in this year's campaign and they have yet to disappoint.
Having just edged a win in the first round, bagging victory on the smallest of margins with a one-point win over Armagh, 1-11 to 1-10, Donegal have been stamping their mark on the competition since.
They truly had their shooting boots on in Round Two when they drove home to a comprehensive 6-16 to 0-7 win over Down and the goals kept on coming in Round Three when they overcame Kildare on a 5-19 to 1-2 scoreline.
Round Four saw another solid performance from Davy McLaughlin's charges when they overcame Kildare by 5-13 to 1-3.
Meath were the next team to face Donegal and despite a competitive performance, just could not stem the Donegal attacking tide as the visitors continued their goal-scoring run, netting 6-17 to Meath’s 2-6.
"We're all looking forward to the game this weekend," Davy told Her.ie. "It's been a great League so far. We lost every game last year and unfortunately heads were down, and it had become a habit.
"We put a lot of work in over the winter with the girls and now, that work is coming to fruition. We've played five games and won five games and our confidence is back which is great - last year was very tough."
"You need that drive in a team, the competiveness, the hunger and the last few wins have done that for us which is great to see. Numbers are great at training, the girls are all competing for places and we want to win every game we play.
"We won't take Cavan for granted though. People say they have been a surprise in this year's League, but for me it was no surprise. I know the work that has been done there at underage level and you can see that paying off.
"They won the Intermediate final in 2013 and I suppose last year was a bit of a transition year for them from that. I knew that they would be ones to watch this year so it will be an interesting game."
"There are no easy games at this stage of the competition. Of course, we set out our stall at the start of the year that we wanted to get to the League semi-final. Now that we are there, we'd hope to win it and go back up to Division 1.
"But every team has that goal so as I said, there'll be no easy games. You have to beat what's in front of you and we are focused firmly on that right now."
