Former Taoiseach Albert Reynolds Has Passed Away, Aged 81

Former Taoiseach Albert Reynolds has passed away aged 81.

He died following a long battle with illness. Albert is survived by his wife Kathleen and five children; two sons and five daughters.

The Roscommon born politician was first elected as a Longford TD in 1977.

Reynolds succeeded Charlie Haughey as Taoiseach and Fianna Fáil party leader in February 1992.

He led the Fianna Fáil party in two coalition governments and was credited for his significant contribution in bringing about the peace process in Northern Ireland.
