While the publication is known for its notorious headlines, the latest story run on a rape victim has gotten serious criticism from readers online.
The Sun tweeted a story on July 20, about India Chipchase, a 20-year-old woman who was strangled and murdered by rapist Edward Tenniswood.
But the focus on the deceased victim's drinking habits before she died rather than the inhumane actions of her killer incurred a wrath of hatred from upset and disgusted readers. People took to Twitter to voice their strong emotions and fury at the damning article.Woman ‘drank six Jagerbombs in ten minutes on the night she was raped and murdered’ https://t.co/47HGvlWz23 pic.twitter.com/3WYZ1zGDNh

Why is The Sun attempting to increasing its falling readership by promoting victim blaming? Rape is rape, whether a victim is drunk or not. — Leisha (@leishaxhaley) July 22, 2016
Nothing much can surprise me about The Sun, but their article promoting the hideous rape culture of victim blaming is just... It's so vile.

Can ya imagine working for The Sun & after hearing news of a rape& murder, your 1st thought is 'She shouldn't have drank those jagerbombs' ? — Katie Grant (@89Grant) July 20, 2016
'Woman existed before somebody decided that she didn't deserve to. Overall we agree with them' @TheSun pic.twitter.com/VFDRVbBV5H

.@thesun just checking, how much is a woman allowed to drink before her murder is acceptable? That'd be useful info https://t.co/yZRJql9v6q — Dean Burnett (@garwboy) July 20, 2016
