The Road Safety Authority is warning road users today of the dangers posed by the heavy fog forecast across the country from this evening.
The warning comes following Met Eireann’s decision to issue an Orange Weather Warning, which came into effect from 5pm this evening and lasts through to tomorrow morning.

The Road Safety Authority has offered a series of guidelines to those driving this evening with poor visibility conditions affecting vast parts of the country:
For Motorists
- Slow down and increase the distance from the vehicle in front.
- Use dipped headlights and front and rear fog lights, if fitted.
- Open your window a little so you can hear other road users approaching, particularly at junctions.
- Remember to switch off fog lights when visibility improves.
- Keep a sharp lookout for pedestrians, cyclists and motorcyclists.
- Do not blindly follow the vehicle in front – it may leave the road for whatever reason.
- If you have to stop, activate your hazard warning lights.
If you’re a pedestrian or cyclist, the RSA advises wearing bright visibility clothing to make yourself seen to motorists and to avoid bodies of water or cliff edges.
