The Voice star Christina Grimmie shot dead at Orlando concert

Former The Voice contestant Christina Grimmie has died after a shooting at an Orlando concert.

According to USA Today, Christina was signing autographs with the band Before You Exit after they had performed together when a man "walked up to her and shot her". Christina's brother reportedly tackled the man which prevented him from hurting anyone else. Speaking at a news conference, Sergeant Wanda Miglio said: "This should have been something that was fun and exciting and for something like this to happen is just a tragedy".

Speaking to E! News, a spokesperson for Orlando Police said: "Upon arrival officers found the male suspect, who was deceased and one victim who was gravely injured. That victim, singer Christina Grimmie, was transported to the hospital with critical injuries". "Detectives were told the suspect, who is not being identified at this time, walked toward Christina and shot her. "Christina's brother immediately tackled the suspect stopping him from causing any more harm to Christina and her fans. During the struggle, the suspect shot himself. The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene". 22-year-old Christina took part in the 2014 series of The Voice, coming third in the overall competition.
