Swot Up On Style: A-Z Of All Things Fashion

We love the letter B.

Cathy Donohue

You could study style for years, and still have scope to learn more.

An interesting topic that doesn’t always get the love it deserves, with some dismissing it as frivolous.

We wear clothes everyday (although a duvet day now and then is compulsory), and wearing something you love can often change your mood.

In homage to the dynasty that is style, this A-Z guide will bring you a little insider information on one of our favourite subjects, this week concentrating on all things B.

Brown Thomas

A one-stop shop for style perfection. With branches in Galway, Cork, Limerick and Dublin, not to forget sister store BT2, women across the country are bewitched by the luxury department store and its gorgeous wares. Beautiful bags, Sex And The City worthy shoes, chic separates and we won’t even get started on the beauty buys. The iconic monochrome branding has been known to elicit an excited squeal from many a happy shopper. It’s a very happy place indeed.

Balenciaga

33-year-old Gisele Bündchen is rarely seen on the catwalk these days but she made an appearance for the Balenciaga show at Paris Fashion Week on Wednesday, showing the global power of this fashion house. Alexander Wang, creative director of Balenciaga, has given the brand a cool and youthful makeover since he took the helm at the beginning of 2013. “Women still want something that feels liberating, that feels new, that feels inspiring. Women want to be seduced.”

Blazers
A structured blazer is a wardrobe essential. It’s one item that has the power to completely transform an outfit. A simple white t-shirt and denim combination becomes sharp chic cool once you pair it with a well-cut blazer. Black is the fail-safe option and we love this one from River Island, €55. However, one member of the Her team has a little obsession with the blazer hence the addition of nude, navy and taupe to her wardrobe.

Betsey Johnson

“Take a leotard and add a skirt”  is Bestey’s recipe for style success. The American designer is known for her quirky, whimsical and ultra feminine pieces. Embellishment, feathers and electric neon shades feature strongly in her designs. An eclectic personality, the designer often finishes her shows by doing a cartwheel instead of taking a bow. While riotous colours, voluminous ruffles and multiple accessories might sound a little OTT on paper, in reality it’s pretty amazing.
