“Coming off the show has been bitter sweet for me.”

Love Island’s Mary has paid tribute to her grandmother, who sadly passed away while she was in the villa.

Mary, who had stayed silent on social media since exiting the show, took to Instagram last night to say that she flew straight home from Majorca to attend her grandmother’s funeral.

“Our angel on earth is now our angel in heaven,” she began.

“Coming off the show has been bitter sweet for me as I flew home to go to the funeral of my beautiful grandma who passed away whilst I was in the villa. I’ve been taking the time since the show to mourn, reflect, and be back with my loved ones before returning to my social media.

“I want to say thank you from the bottom of my heart for all of the support I have received at this difficult time, I truly appreciate everything.”

The 22-year-old added that she had a dream about her grandmother while she was in the villa, later telling fellow contestant Faye that she thought her grandmother had passed.

Mary, who left the villa with Aaron before this week’s final, also thanked her followers for their support during this difficult time.

Following their time on the show, the couple later said that they were going to “see where things go,” but remain friends regardless.

During Aftersun, the pair spoke to Laura Whitmore about their relationship and how things can be “different” once you leave the reality dating show.

Mary said: “I think we’re just gonna go home, when we’re back in the real world again and things are more normal we’re going to see how it goes, but I have definitely made a best friend in here.”

Laura then asked whether the pair could become “more than friends,” to which Mary responded “we’ll see where it goes.”
