The Lizzie McGuire reboot has officially been cancelled, says Hilary Duff

Not the best news for Lizzie McGuire fans…

According to Hilary Duff, the Lizzie McGuire reboot has been cancelled. It was only last year that the star posted about filming a reboot to the popular kids TV show. Now, however, it seems as though the possibility is so yesterday.

“SURPRISE!!! I’ve been trying to contain this excitement for a loooong time while this has been in the works!” she said last year.

” I am beyond excited to be home again, back with my girl…and into her 30s.”

Since then, Duff has been working away on the new episodes for Disney+, with writer-producer Terri Minsky taking on the reboot.

In January it was revealed that Minsky had left the project because Disney was not happy with her first two episodes. There were rumours that the reboot had been canned, but Disney always denied those reports.

Well, now it’s official – the show will not make a comeback. Hilary Duff took to Instagram to reveal the news in a post.

“I’ve been so honoured to have the character of Lizzie in my life,” she said. “She has made such a lasting impact on many, including myself. To see the fans’ loyalty and love for her, to this day, means so much to me.”

She goes on to say: “I know the efforts and conversations have been everywhere trying to make a reboot work but, sadly & despite everyone’s best efforts, it isn’t going to happen.”

The post then gets a little emotional towards the end, “we can all take a moment to mourn the amazing woman she would have been and the adventures we would have taken with her. I’m very sad, but I promise everyone tried their best and the stars just didn’t align. Hey now, this is what 2020s made of.”

RIP Lizzie’s adventures in her 30s.
