Cooking rice THIS way could reduce its calorie count by 60 percent

It's so simple!

Simply adding some coconut oil to rice during the cooking stage, then cooling it before serving could result in a calorie reduction of up to 50 percent, according to research.

It's all to do with resistant starch, which cannot be broken down and absorbed by the body.

A cup of white rice contains around 240 calories but cooked a certain way, the amount of resistant starch it contains can be increased, meaning fewer of the calories it contains are processed into sugar.

According to research presented at the National Meeting & Exposition of the American Chemical Society (ACS), tests on 38 different types of rice showed the following recipe was the most effective.

How to make your rice less calorific:

1. Add one teaspoon of coconut oil to a pot of boiling water

2. Add half a cup of white rice, boil for 40 minutes

3. After draining, store in the refrigerator for 12 hours

4. Heat thoroughly before serving

All of the steps, including the cooling stage, must be completed.
