Who doesn’t love pizza?
I mean; honestly, I don’t think I have met a single person – adults, kids, no one – who doesn’t like pizza.
And sure look – some like it one way – margarita purists, anyone? Others prefer lots of toppings and ‘extras’ – I’m a total pineapple-on-pizza girl myself – but at the end of the day, dough smeared with sauce topped with cheese – well, it really is a universal thing, and we cannot get enough.
To really nail that perfect crispy, charred crust, a pizza oven is your best bet. However, most of us don’t have one, of course, and so we make do with oven cooking our pizzas – thinking – until now – that this was the best option.
However – guys – I am here to tell you this is not the case.
Enter frying pan pizza – AKA pizza cooked in a skillet (cast iron is best) on your oven top – then just finished off under the grill in the oven – and trust me, you’re going to want to try this at home.

Cooked in a searing hot frying pan, these easy to make pizzas have a lovely crisp bottom and oozy, melted top. Using a pan gives much more heat than an oven, and then a few minutes under the grill cooks everything evenly.
Ready? All you need is to make the dough and get your toppings ready.
Ingredients
Dough
Serves 4
500g plain flour
7g packet easy bake yeast
2 tbsp olive oil
300-330ml water
Salt

Method
- To make the dough, sift the flour into bowl and add the yeast, oil, water and a good pinch of salt. Bring together in the bowl and then tip out onto a floured surface. Knead for 8-10 minutes or until pale, smooth and soft. Place into an oiled mixing bowl and cover with a clean tea towel. Leave to prove for 30 minutes.
- Pre-heat the grill to high. Divide the dough into 4 and roll out into rounds that will fit into your frying pan. I do mine about 10 inches.
- Heat a non-stick frying pan over high heat and add a tablespoon of the oil. Place one of the pizzas into the pan and spoon over some of the tomato sauce. Swirl it over the top, leaving a gap around the edge. Top with mozzarella and your other toppings. Leave for 1-2 minutes until the bottom looks golden and crispy. Reduce the heat if it’s cooking too fast.
- Place the pizza under the grill to finish cooking on top. This should take about 2-3 minutes, until the cheese is melted. Serve immediately.
