The disgraced producer was jailed earlier this year.
Victims of Harvey Weinstein are set to receive a $19 million settlement, according to the New York Attorney General’s office.
The settlement was reached this week following a sexual lawsuit against the convicted rapist and ex-Hollywood producer, who was jailed for 23 years in February.
The payments, which will need to be approved by bankruptcy and district courts, is set to create a Weinstein victims’ fund, allowing women who were abused by the former mogul under certain circumstances to make confidential claims for damages.
Attorney General Letitia James said that the settlement will afford Weinstein’s victims “some justice.”
“Harvey Weinstein and The Weinstein Company failed their female employees,” she said.
“After all the harassment, threats, discrimination, and gender-based discrimination these survivors are finally receiving some justice.
“For more than two years, my office has fought tirelessly in the pursuit of justice for the women whose lives were upended by Harvey Weinstein.
“This agreement is a win for every woman who has experienced sexual harassment, discrimination, intimidation, or retaliation by her employer. I thank the brave women who came forward to share their stories with my office.”
James added that she will “forever carry their stories in my heart and never stop fighting for the right of every single person to be able to work harassment-free.”
According to Sky News, legal representatives for six women accusing Weinstein of sexual assault and rape have dubbed the settlement a “sell out,” as the deal did not require Weinstein to personally pay any damages.
Weinstein was convicted of rape and sexual assault earlier this year in New York and sentenced to 23 years in prison. The 68-year-old is facing five more sexual assault charges in Los Angeles.
Weinstein has consistently denied all charges against him.
