Tragic news this morning.

A woman in her 50s is confirmed to have died after a caravan she was sleeping in was blown off a cliff in Galway overnight.

The incident is said to have happened in Claddaghduff with emergency services arriving on the scene first thing this morning.

A search was carried out in the surrounding area of Acton Beach and gardaí confirmed the woman’s body was later found.

It is believed the woman was sleeping when strong gusts lifted the caravan from the ground and pushed it from the cliff.

Met Éireann has advised “extreme caution” in the coastal areas of Clare, Connacht and Donegal.

Most parts of the country remain under a Status Orange warning this morning as guests continue to build.

The warning applies to Connacht, Cavan, Monaghan, Donegal, Dublin, Kildare, Longford, Louth, Offaly, Westmeath, Meath, Clare and Kerry with a status yellow warning in place for every other county.

The woman’s body has since been taken to University Hospital Galway for a post-mortem.
