Meet Cadhla and Sadhbh O’Reilly – the Irish models taking the fashion world by storm

Sarah McKenna Barry

We caught up with the Lucan twins to chat career highlights and what it’s really like to work with your sister.

It’s been a whirlwind few years for Irish models and twin sisters Cadhla and Sadhbh O’Reilly.

When I catch up with them, they’re back in Dublin after spending several months in Milan, where they had been based since Fashion Week.

But it’s not just the past few months that have been busy for the twins. Since getting started, Cadhla and Sadbh have been featured in prestigious editorials and modelled for the likes of Roberto Cavalli and Dolce & Gabbana. Two years ago, the Irish Times included them in their list of the best young talent in Ireland.

Indeed, they’ve been on quite the journey since they were first scouted.

“We got into modelling around 5th year in school because our best friend was having a birthday party,” Sadhbh tells Her. “She posted a picture on her Instagram and she had just signed with the agency. So then the agent saw the picture with us in it, and they were like, ‘Are those girls interested in modelling?’ And we said yes!”

At the time, school had to come first, but once they finished up, they were able to get properly stuck into the industry. Their first job saw them appear in Perry Ogden’s film Fi, a fashion portrait, which explored the diversity of modern Ireland.

“Ogden’s just an amazing photographer,” Cadhla says. “Working with him was great.”

More recently, Cadhla looks at the past few months as a significant period in her career.

“Over the last two months in Milan, we’ve been able to work with brands like Dolce & Gabbana, Roberto Cavalli and Sunnei,” she says.

Sadhbh also points to the work they’ve done closer to home.

“A highlight for me was when we did the Create campaigns for Brown Thomas,” she says. “We were in a Brown Thomas window and it was really cool to watch, especially because that was for Irish brands and upcoming artists. That was a really proud moment.”

As well as working closely with Irish designers and artists, another draw for the O’Reilly twins into the modelling world is the chance to work and travel with each other.

“That’s the main reason we do it,” Cadhla says. “No other job allows you to work with your sister like that. We get along well, so it’s great that we get to spend so much time together on set, or planning or travelling.”
