Apparently we’ve been washing our hair the wrong way

Whaaaaaat!

We’re not too sure about this…

Apparently, we’ve all been washing our hair the wrong way. Usually, you would shampoo first and then condition afterwards, right?

Well, you might want to rethink that.

According to Refinery29, Nina Dimachki, artistic director for Kérastase, has given advice on washing your hair and it’s the complete opposite to what we do.

She says, “Conditioning before you shampoo is great for adding nourishment to fine hair without weighing it down. It also promotes a longer lasting blow dry and primes the hair before cleansing, allowing shampoo to distribute easier and more evenly.”

It’s not just for people with thin hair though, Nina says it can be hugely beneficial to highlighted hair because it tangles easily after shampooing and so is prone to getting greasy.

If you have thick or coarse hair, you may benefit from a condition-shampoo-condition routine instead.

If you’re thinking of swapping your shampoo/conditioner order then keep in mind that you will have to change your conditioning technique slightly. While you normally just put conditioner on the roots of your hair, after you shampoo, you will need to put conditioner all over your hair if it’s going on before the shampoo.

Nina say the reason for this is because, “You will be cleansing it after, so your hair won’t be weighed down or oily.”
