Her Beauty Favorites – What’s Your Scent Style?

Here are our picks.

Put a group of women together and you’re guaranteed plenty of chat.

The Her.ie team have been known to chat about bra sizes, embarrassing crushes and everything in between.

Tried and tested beauty products often come up in conversation, which can be very helpful when you want to find out about a certain item before purchasing.

This week we’ve been chatting about our favourite perfumes: some of us adore warm scents like vanilla and jasmine while others prefer fruity and fresh notes.

Perfume is something that’s very unique to each individual and what you love, the next person might hate.

I flit from perfume to perfume depending on my mood, the outfit I’m wearing and the state of the weather outside. Whatever is happening though, I will always have three bottles on the go: Romance by Ralph Lauren, 212 Sexy by Carolina Herrera and Armani’s Elle. If pushed to choose, though, my all-time favourite is 212 Sexy (€44.50 – €68.50). Launched in 2005, this perfume is a fresh blend of tangerine and bergamot, with florals and subtle hints of cotton candy, caramel and musk. It’s a lovely scent, warm and inviting. For me, it helps that it’s not one of the most well-known perfumes on the market, nice when you want your signature scent to stand out from the crowd.

My favourite perfume is Flowerbomb by Viktor & Rolf (€85 for 50ml). It’s just a really fresh, summer scent and stays on forever. It is a little bit more expensive but just a really nice perfume. I get it every year for my birthday.

I’m a fickle sort so I never really had a signature scent before Viktor & Rolf Flowerbomb (€85 for 50ml), instead wearing whatever brand I received as a present for Christmas or stumbled upon in Boots. However, the minute I found this, I was hooked. It’s on the pricier end of the scale but the blend of floral notes including rose and orchid, combined with jasmine, really make this something special. If you’re got a birthday coming up, start dropping hints now – you won’t be disappointed!

My signature scent is Ghost by Ghost (€50). It’s really light and fresh which means it’s perfect for day-to-day wear. I still love it even after years of using it and when I first started using it, people always commented on it which I think is a sign that you’ve found your perfect perfume match.

I absolutely love Jo Malone’s bottles of perfume. Though a bit on the pricey side, I find a lot of the fragrances are refreshing and zingy. My absolute favourite has to be Lime Basil and Mandarin (€96 for 100ml). It has such a lovely scent that almost makes you feel like you’re outdoors or on holiday somewhere exotic!

I am very fussy when it comes to scent. I’m not fussed about fragrances that have heavy floral top notes and much prefer fresh, and on occasion fruity, smells. If I’m honest, I’d much prefer male cologne over a perfume any day. Recently however, I’ve become obsessed with Dior Addict Eau Sensuelle (€67). Not only does it last but it is also the perfect strength of perfume. Dior never falls short in any department.

I find it pretty difficult to choose just one perfume. There’s a few in my collection at the moment including Dolce & Gabbana The One, Calvin Klein Endless Euphoria and Marc Jacobs Daisy Sunshine and Givenchy Ange ou Démon. It’s quite a mix really but even though I chop and change a lot, I’ll always remain loyal to Chanel Coco Mademoiselle (€82 for 50ml). Oriental scents can be quite heavy but this particular one is fresh and light. Laying claim to my own Chanel 2.55 bag might remain forever a figment of my imagination but this perfume will definitely continue to be a favourite.

I’m a big fan of Hugo Boss perfume. Both my day time choice and my going-out perfume are from the brand, and I rarely stray from the two bottles. I love Hugo Boss Femme for day-to-day wear; it smells fresh and floral without being too strong and lasts the day. For nights out I always spritz on Hugo Boss Deep Red. It’s been my staple for years, and it never gets old. It’s clean, a bit stronger than the daytime fragrance and has a fruity, warm smell. Perfect for a night out!
