The reason why you should never use shower gel or conditioner to shave your legs

Keeley Ryan

We’ve all been guilty of it at one time or another.

Shaving is one of those time consuming shower tasks that we’ve all cut corners on at some point.

And in an effort to cut down on time, many people use a shampoo, conditioner or shower gel in place of shaving foam.

But we’ve got some bad news because…well, that’s a huge “no-no”, apparently.

Dermatologist Dr Anita Sturnham insists that it’s actually worth it to use a shaving cream.

The Venus ambassador and skincare expert explained to Popsugar:

“Shaving has a naturally exfoliating mechanism of action, so you need to use products that are designed to work in synergy with your razor and improve glide, reduce friction, and the risk of irritation and cuts.

“These formulations will coat the hairs, making them thicker and more difficult to shave.”

If that isn’t enough of a reason, it turns out that not using the right product can actually end up blunting your razor.

And not only are your razors rendered useless quicker, you’re increasing the likelihood of getting cuts, too.

Dr Sturnham continued:

“It can clog your razors, which ultimately means using your razor more often for results that aren’t as smooth.”

That’s us told, then.
