The super genius hack that will stop your hair from clogging up the drain

It can get very annoying.

Cathy Donohue

Possibly the best hair hack yet.

If you’re blessed/cursed with thick hair (depending on which way you look at it, I tend to go with the latter), then you’ll know all about clogged-up drains.

I have a lot of hair and when showering, it often feels that way too much of my hair is coming out.

This, of course, leads to the aforementioned messy drain but thankfully, there’s a way around it.

It’s all to do with how you wash your hair and if you can avoid ‘friction’, you should see a significant improvement in how much hair is lost.

Lars Skjoth, the brains behind hair products Harklinikken, chatted to Byrdie and explained how to go about this revolutionary technique.

The hair guru is a fan of conditioning before shampooing, something we’ve been hearing a lot about lately because he says this will help stop your hair from becoming excessively dry.

When it comes to shampooing, and THIS is the really important bit, only apply the shampoo to your scalp, using “circular motions”.

Then, rinse the shampoo but tie the conditioned ends up while doing so. Once the shampoo is sufficiently rinsed, then wash the conditioner away.

Sounds complicated so why bother with all that effort?

According to Lars, this method allows you to wash your locks gently, without “roughing them up”.

This means you’re avoiding friction which means less hair down the drain.

Thinking of how I usually scrub my hair vigorously in a bid to remove product build-up etc, I for one am definitely guilty of causing hair loss.

It might take a couple of tries to get the hang of this but it will be worth it in the end.
