Marissa Carter: ‘I sat in my car and cried on my own for about an hour’

It happens to the best of us.

Not least of all when you’re on your way to building one hell of a makeup and beauty brand to rival the rest.

In episode 5 of our #BehindTheBrand six-part docu-series — Meltdowns: It’s Not All Smooth Sailing — Marissa listed just a few emergency situations that came about with creating the business she was dreaming of. You can watch it below.

“A couple of weeks before we launched I had one absolutely massive wobble. It kind of hit me like a ton of bricks out of nowhere. There was nothing that set it off.

“I was in my car, on my way to work and I pulled in to get a coffee and I sat down in the car and I just started bawling crying. I think I sat in my car and cried on my own for about an hour.”

The stress and panic of building a brand, and all that comes with it, had finally taken its toll.

“There was so much risk involved, there were no guarantees that it was going to work, there was obviously a lot of investment, a lot of money gone into it.”

Once she made it to the office, her team of what she calls her ‘amazing women’ came to the rescue (with tea, of course — the ultimate cure).

“She [Claudia] wanted to fix the problem straight away and I just said look there is no problem, there’s nothing wrong with me, nothing horrendous has happened, it was just really an emotional time for me right before we launched.”

“I think as a leader and a boss it’s really important to be composed and not to show when you’re freaking out. But that was just one time where I felt, I really can’t hide this.”

We’re all human after all gals!
