The one skincare product you have to start using before you hit 30

Cathy Donohue

The skincare product that people often rave about is retinol.

You may have heard it mentioned before because when it comes to slowing down the skin’s aging process, beauty experts and editors rave about Vitamin A.

However, there can be some side effects, namely dryness and irritation, and I’ll admit that I was a little nervous when it was recommended that I try the skincare product.

This reluctance comes from having sensitive but oily skin and a major breakout recently when I ended up with a rash after overuse of products that were too strong.

Bad, bad idea.

However, skip forward three months and my skin is in a better place thanks to the right products and yes, the introduction of retinol, albeit in small amounts.

I think that’s the key thing here, I’ve only been using it in a teeny tiny percentage and the skincare product I was recommended (by a facialist I’ve been going to for a few years) is SkinCeuticals Retinol 0.3 Refining Night Treatment.

Now to move on to what this stuff actually does and to bring it back to basics, retinol stimulates the growth of new skin cells so it’s rejuvenating the skin, improving skin elasticity, minimising pores and lessening fine lines.

Not so bad for one skincare product.

30ml is priced around €54 which isn’t cheap but considering the number of benefits it has and the fact that it’s protecting your skin in the long term, it’s worth considering.

A little goes a long way, you might only use it twice it a week in the beginning so that your skin has a chance to get used to it and that way, it will last you for ages.

With longterm use, the benefits include brightening skin tone, unclogging pores and boosting collagen production which leads to the reduction of wrinkles and prevention of fine lines.
