Olive O’Connor is a wife, mother to three girls, a carer, and an entrepreneur.
Olive’s daughters all have chronic conditions, she herself is a medical patient, and her husband had a stroke at the age of 42. The mum-of-three has vowed to make the lives of those with chronic health conditions, and those who want to keep track of their medical records for the future, a lot simpler.
Since a teenager Olive has had one dream – to meet Richard Branson – and we want to help make that dream come true.
Olive has entered the Virgin Voom Awards in the hopes of winning a share of €1.2 million from Richard Branson, or a whole host of prizes and opportunities for her business, and the chance to meet the man himself. Her social entrepreneurship project is called the Medistori, which was built from the need for her to better manage the chronic illnesses her family deal with every day, and her work as a carer:
“My work has all been done on the back of my own experiences as I am a patient myself; a carer and mum to my three daughters who each have chronic conditions; a wife to my husband who suffered a stroke at 42; and a carer to the man I called dad – who was on a whopping 22 medications.”

The Medistori is a vital paper tool much like a medical chart (but for patients themselves), that has helped many people across Ireland manage their health.
“The MediStori toolkit is promoted and recommended by health care professionals in various public, private and charitable services. Using this method, the MediStori is recognised, supported and interoperable between services. It in itself is not the link – the patient is. It just goes with the patient wherever they go.”
