The Prince of Wales knew that people preferred Diana to him and he was more than well aware that most of the time, crowds only gathered to see his wife.
And according to People magazine, he figured out that Diana was "upstaging" him quite early on into the relationship.
Cousin to the Queen, Lady Elizabeth Anson, told the publication:
“[Diana] sort of metamorphosed into a very, very elegant blonde beauty. "They did a visit to Wales which was the beginning of Prince Charles, realizing, 'They’ve come out to see my wife, they haven’t come out to see me.'"
Diana and Charlies were married in 1981 when Diana was just 20-years-old.
In the years that followed, the couple welcomed two sons - William and Harry - before Diana's untimely death in Paris in 1997.
Apparently, not even the loss of his wife could stop Charles from being jealous of his family though, with the prince said to have been cold towards Prince William and wife Kate when they and their family decided not to visit him at Christmas one year.
