They met 13 years ago.

Jenna Dewan has opened up about the part of her relationship with Channing Tatum that will “never change” – as she recalled meeting him for the first time.

The actress is the cover star for Vegas magazine’s 15th anniversary issue, where she talked about everything from dancing with Janet Jackson to her television career.

She also briefly addressed meeting Channing Tatum on the set of Step Up in 2005 – and how they had an “instant connection” – in what is her first interview since the split was announced.

She explained:

“We started out as friends, and I would say it was an instant recognition.

“When we met [on the set of Step Up in 2005] it felt like we had known each other for many years.

“Ultimately, no matter what Chan and I are doing, we’re really great friends. I think that will never change, no matter what.”

The couple, who are parents 4-year-old Everly, released joint statements last month to announce they were separating after eight years of marriage.

The statement read:

“We have something we would like to share.

“First off, it feels off that we have to share this kind of thing with everyone but it’s a consequence of the lives we’ve chosen to lead.

“We have lovingly chosen to separate as a couple. We fell deeply in love so many years ago and have had a magical journey together.
“Absolutely nothing has changed about how much we love one another, but love is a beautiful adventure that is taking us on different paths for now.

“There are no secrets or salacious events at the root of our decision – just two best friends realising it’s time to take some space  and help each other live the most joyous, fulfilled lives as possible.

“We are still a family and will always be loving dedicated parents to Everly.”
