The news that Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt have ended their twelve-year relationship came as a shock to many, including their close friend George Clooney.

Yesterday, Brad and Ange released separate statements on the breakdown of their marriage saying that divorce was best for the “health of the family” (Ange) with Brad saying what matters most is the “wellbeing” of the couple’s six children.

Anyway, while everyone expressed surprise at the news, CNN correspondent Richard Roth was busy getting George Clooney’s opinion on the news while at a United Nations General Assembly meeting in New York.

The Ocean’s Eleven actor appeared to have no clue about the couple’s split whatsoever, explaining that it was the first he had heard of the news.

First, George asked what happened and when he was told, he responded with a shocked “Wow. I didn’t know that”.

He then expressed his sadness at the news, saying:

“That’s a sad story and unfortunate for a family. It’s an unfortunate story about a family. I feel very sorry to hear that.”

The actress and director has asked for physical custody of the couple’s six children: Maddox, Pax, Zahara, Shiloh, and twins Knox and Vivienne.

She also asked that Brad have visitation rights and legal custody of the kids.
