Nicki Minaj has admitted she’s just a little obsessed with Jay Z, revealing she was inspired to name her new album after the rapper.
The ‘Starships’ singer admitted her new album ‘The Pink Print’ was named in dedication to Jay Z, who has previously released a record ‘The Blueprint’.
In an interview with Power 106, the 31 year old spoke about being influenced by the music figure, saying she has learnt a lot from following the rapper’s career over the years:
“I think everybody knows how obsessed I am with Jay Z. He’s always been my favourite rapper – him and [Lil] Wayne. He did such a great job of creating this Blueprint brand for male rappers, I felt. And I studied a lot of his blueprint, just in terms of becoming a mogul.”
Minaj also added that she wants to be recognised as the female equivalent of the star, encouraging other female rappers and inspiring their music in years to come:
“I wanted to do that, I wanted to be like Jay Z. I felt like with what I’m doing, I want female rappers to be able to pattern themselves with what I’ve done one day. And I think the album is soooo classic, it’s gonna feel so good and it will probably be one that female rappers will look to as a ‘pink print’ for years to come.”
This isn’t the first time the star has gushed about her icon, claiming him recognising her talent after recommending her for Robin Thicke’s ‘Shakin’ It 4 Daddy’ made her feel like “getting that stamp of approval from the most popular jock in high school and being a freshman in high school and thinking no one knows you exist.”
Sounds like a bit of a school girl crush to us…
