5 suspects who could be the Black Hood on Riverdale

Keeley Ryan

When Riverdale’s Black Hood was revealed last year, it fell a bit…flat.

For months, the shadowy villain had been targeting a number of the town’s residents: shooting Fred Andrews, attacking Moose and Midge, and was behind the deaths of Geraldine Grundy and Robert Phillips.

Nobody was safe, essentially.

After nine episodes, the killer was finally unmasked as the janitor, Svenson, in the second season’s mid-season finale – but there was something about it that just didn’t seem right, to fans and Archie alike.

Showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa revealed the news last week that the Black Hood would be returning to Riverdale – and soon.

He said that there were three likely suspects for the killer at the start of it all, and that they had been dropping red herrings so they were able to pick one early on.

But they “always knew” it wasn’t actually Svenson, so the killer is still out there.

Here’s our five contenders as to who could actually be the Black Hood.

Chic Cooper

It’s time to be honest about Chic (if that’s really his name): he’s just really creepy.

He could definitely end up being the ‘real’ Black Hood – after all, he arrived in town around the same time Svenson was caught – and seems to have a pretty big obsession with Betty, much like the Black Hood did.

Since he’s brought plenty of danger to the Cooper doorstep ever since he moved in, we think something is up with him…but it may be too obvious if he’s the Black Hood.

Chance of being Black Hood? 4/5, maybe? Solely for the creepy factor.

Andre

The security for the Lodge family may have just gotten attacked by the FBI-agent-who-wasn’t-really-an-FBI-agent, Adams, but that doesn’t wipe him off the Who Is Black Hood list yet.

Andre’s already proven that he’s willing to do anything for his two employers, who have been trying to “cleanse” the South Side for their SoDale project.

Not to mention the fact that the first victim of the Black Hood, Fred Andrews, was having an affair with Hermione – a revenge attack, maybe?

Chance of being Black Hood? 3.5/5.

Betty Cooper

Riverdale’s girl-next-door has shown a number of times that she has a dark side -and that she feels the pull of the Black Hood (remember when she tried it on herself?).

After seeing “Dark Betty” take control (and the fact that Betty doesn’t seem to realise her dark side exists), combined with the fact that the Black Hood only interacted with her and knew things about Betty only someone close to her would know…

Well, it’s not looking good for Betty.

Chance of being Black Hood? 3/5

Polly Cooper

At this point in Riverdale, it seems that every person in the Cooper family has a dark side – except for Polly.

But just because we haven’t seen it doesn’t mean it’s not there. Perhaps, after the death of Jason (and the realisation that they were actually related), she’s lashing out at everyone she thought had a part in his death.

From Miss Grundy to the Sugar Man….well, a lot of the people who were once involved with Jason seem to be targets of the shadowy villain.

Chance of being Black Hood? 3/5

Claudius Bossom

Cheryl’s super-creepy uncle is just that: super creepy.

But so far, it looks like he’s after the money in his brother’s inheritance – and getting Cheryl and Nana Rose out of the way so he can claim it all.

A villain? Definitely. We’re just not convinced he’s the villain. Especially since we only met him a few episodes ago.

Chance of being Black Hood? 2/5. Maybe a 2.5.
