8 questions we have after THAT huge reveal in the Jane the Virgin finale

Keeley Ryan

It looked like a happily ever after was in store for just about everyone.

But the Jane The Virgin season finale went back to its telenovela roots with a last minute reveal that will, really, change the lives of all the characters.

And while it was fairly heartbreaking to see it all play out, it left us with lots of questions – and wanting to know what’s next.

With at least a five month break likely to be in store before Jane The Virgin’s Season 5 premieres, it’s going to be a looooooong time before we get some answers.

So, here’s the 8 questions we’re left mulling over after that big reveal in the finale.

Warning, this story contains spoilers for the season 4 finale of Jane the Virgin.

Let’s start out with the biggest one of all….

Is that actually Michael?

Rose has already proven herself to be a master of disguise, so it’s entirely possible she’s gotten a criminal to go under the knife and get features resembling Michael (or, y’know, a reallyreallyreally well made mask).

It could also be a long lost twin brother, but we’re not entirely sure that Michael’s mum wouldn’t have told Jane about him before – or that she wouldn’t have known about him herself.

But with how deep Michael was into the investigation of Sin Rostro, it’s not impossible that he would’ve faked his death to go under cover so that nothing would happen to Jane and Mateo – we just can’t imagine he would’ve left everyone so heartbroken.

So, who are Raf’s parents?

Raf has been searching for his birth parents for most of the season and, after some missteps, appeared to have a lead when Rose told him she had information that would “change his life forever”.

Only, poor Raf, it ended up being for all the wrong reasons.

With the promise that there will be some degree of payoff (and that the identity of the narrator would be revealed), we doubt his biological parents’ identities are going to be too dramatic. Or at least we hope so, for Raf’s sake.

Who did JR shoot?

Following the realisation that Petra really did kill her twin sister Anežka, JR storms out – only to get a call from Petra’s ex-assistant, Krishna, warning her that Petra’s in danger.

She made it back to the room just in time to stop a mystery assailant from shooting Petra – and, instead, she shot him/her.

While Petra’s definitely made some enemies over the years, we’ve got to wonder who would be angry enough to kill her. Was it Miloš? Magda? Chuck? Someone we haven’t met yet?

In another telenovela-style twist…what if it was Anežka’s husband, Scott? Yeah, he’s meant to be dead – but so was Michael.

What’s going to happen to Jane and Rafael?

The show spent almost an entire season building up the relationship between Jane and Rafael, including the almost-proposal in the season finale. And when Jane was under the impression Raf was spiralling over the identity of his birth parents, she told him:

“Whatever it is, we’ll deal with it together. Because I love you and you’re it for me — forever.”

She’s totally in love with him and was more than ready to accept Raf’s proposal…before walking into his apartment to see her meant-to-be-dead husband, Michael.

Going off the assumption that it is actually Michael, the re-introduction of the love triangle will have some life-changing consequences for…well, just about everyone.

Will Xo return to good health?

Many fans expected Xiomara to be declared cancer free by the end of the season – but, sadly, that wasn’t the case.

With the news that season 5 will be picking up pretty soon after the season 4 finale, we’re hopeful there will be some good news for Xo – and sooner, rather than later.

Is the Passions of Steve going to make it to air?

Rogelio’s passion project – an English adaptation of the Passions of Santos – was one of the plots that was bubbling under the surface for the second half of the season.

He and his co-star, River Fields, haven’t been getting along too well – but after they appeared to find some common ground in the finale, they may be able to manage to make it work.

Are Alba and Jorge going to live happily ever after?

After her citizenship ceremony, Alba popped the question to Jorge so that he can go and visit his dying mother in Mexico without worrying whether he can get back to the US.

But since Jorge recently turned down Alba when she asked if they could get back together – after she turned down not one, but two of his proposals – so they claim it’s not meant to be a romantic marriage.

Or so they claim, anyways. We’re hoping that these two can get it together and find their happily ever after.

Seriously, is that actually Michael?

Showrunner Jennie Snyder Urman confirmed that while it could be Michael, but all may not be as it appears.

She also confirmed that it’s definitely not Michael’s long-lost twin…although, that could be a fake-out.

Following the big reveal, she told Entertainment Weekly:

“It’s not a twin. I can’t say whether it’s definitely Michael – that will be answered in the first episode of the fifth season.

“There’s definitely going to be some questions… but it certainly looks like Michael.

“This person — and then we’ll talk about him as Michael for clarity — has been somewhere and has had a journey, so we’ll be getting into that.”
