It's hard to believe that it's almost 20 years since the movie Independence Day came out. I know, we feel old too.
Earlier this year it was announced that a highly anticipated sequel would be happening, Independence Day: Resurgence. Now, the first official trailer has just landed and it looks amazing.
With Jeff Goldblum and Bill Pullman reprising their roles and newcomers Liam Hemsworth, Judd Hirsch, Vivica A. Fox and Maika Monroe added to the movie franchise, if this trailer is anything to go by it's going to be a massive movie in 2016.
There is one glaring part missing from the movie and that's the previous lead role, Will Smith. There was a case of will he, won't he earlier this year, (pardon the pun), but reports suggested that Will had priced himself quite far outside the budget for the movie so they couldn't afford him.
It was originally supposed to make a return as a trilogy with Smith signing up for the two but when that fell through plans were made for just one more movie in the series. As they say in Hollywood, the show must go on.
20th Century Fox has said that Independence Day: Resurgence will deliver a global spectacle on an unimaginable scale. In this latest installment, they're now using recovered alien technology and have developed a defense program to protect Earth from an expected Alien invasion. But nothing can prepare them for the aliens’ advanced and unprecedented force.
Independence Day: Resurgence is out in cinemas June 24th 2016.
