Get the popcorn ready: MTV’s Catfish is going to start filming in the UK

Cassie Stokes

This is about 5 years overdue but at least it’s happening!

I’ve been hooked to Catfish ever since it hit our screens back in 2012. And now MTV have decided to start filming stories of online love romances in the UK.

The show’s concept is simple: Nev Schulman and Max Joseph travel around the States meeting interesting people and some not so interesting people, as they hunt for the truth about online love.

But here’s the catch – not everyone is who they say they are.

First, Nev and Max meet the person who is suspicious of their lover. Then they arrange to meet the “Catfish” to find out if they really are who they say they are. They usually aren’t, and they are indeed… a Catfish.

Most stories end on a good note. The Catfish usually apologises and everyone moves on with their lives. Sometimes though, the Catfish isn’t sorry at all, but again, everyone moves on with their lives regardless.

You can apply to appear on Catfish now, with the only requisite being that you live in the UK.

Irish people can apply just yet, but if you happen to live in the UK you can find out more by emailing [email protected] or by filling in the application form here.

We’ve been watching the US series for so long it will be nice to hear a change in accent and see a change of scenery.

Will the show work as well in the UK as it does with Americans? Who knows. We’ll just have to watch it and see.
