Here’s what Danny from The Shining is up to now and yeah, couldn’t have called it

It’s Halloween.

And you know what that means.

Time to watch every single iconic horror film in our scary movies archives until we’re forced to sleep with the light on.

We’re talking Halloween, we’re talking The Blair Witch Project, and most of all, we’re talking The Shining.

It’s the film that shocked, scared, and slaughtered audiences when it was originally released back in 1980.

It’s brilliant, it’s terrifying, and you need to re-watch it right away.

Upon doing so, you’ll be struck by a few things – most notably the stellar and incredibly impressive performance of then child actor, Danny Lloyd.

He played Jack Torrence’s son, Danny, in the film and is probably best known for his haunting rendition of “Redrum” on the bedroom door.

Danny’s performance got us thinking though – what’s this guy up to now?

He was a mere six-years-old when he became one of the most terrifying (and adorable, let’s be honest) figures in modern horror, all the while apparently never realising that he was starring in a horror film.

Following his role in The Shinning, Danny played one more part in a TV movie before retiring from acting in 1982. He now works as a biology professor in a community college in Kentucky.

Here he is now.

We know.

Couldn’t have called it, either.

The now 46-year-old hasn’t forgotten his horror roots though.

He might have been teaching biology for the past decade or so but Danny (who now goes by Dan), despite rumours that he hates The Shining and everything to do with it, actually has very fond memories of being on set.

Last year, he told The Guardian that he and the girls who played the notorious dead twins used to sit and eat peanut butter sandwiches together.

He also said that he remembered being delighted to being allowed to cycle around indoors for once.

Every child’s dream, in fairness.
