Hocus Pocus 2 is officially happening and the excitement is seriously real

Released in July 1993 (yes, 26 years ago and yes, for whatever reason, not released at Halloween), Hocus Pocus wasn’t actually considered much of a hit at the time.

However, that didn’t stop it from becoming a massive cult classic in the intervening years. And ever since, fans have been hoping some Hollywood magic would take place to get that long-delayed sequel.

And after constant are-they-or-aren’t-they rumours over the last few years, it’s official: a Hocus Pocus sequel is in the works.

Adam Shankman, the director of Hairspray and A Walk To Remember, will be directing the film, according to VarietyHe’s currently in pre-production on the Enchanted sequel Disenchanted, so it may be a little while until work on the film begins.

And while nothing has been confirmed, sources told the publication that there are hopes Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy will reprise their roles as the Sanderson sisters.

The film will be arriving on Disney’s streamings service, Disney+.

Shankman took to Instagram to confirm the news on Wednesday evening, as he told his folloers it looks like he’ll be “working on a looooooottttt of magic for awhile”.

“I feel incredibly honoured and humbled to be guiding forward these two Disney crown jewel legacies,” he said. “My only hope is to honour those who came before me and build something new and exciting, as I desperately try to not let down the fans and enchant the new initiates! Fingers crossed!”
